Had to do this myself a while back. First are the existing fence posts in good condition and are fit for re use or do they need to come out too?
If fence posts are in good condition, it is just a matter of replacing the boards. Pretty easy job. Now if you need to sink new fence posts, it is hard work, so rent the tools or hire out this part of the job.
Here are a couple links to get you started.

You can go the easy and a little more expensive way (buy sections of wooden fence at Home Depot already assembled and just buy as many as you need) or you can buy each slat individually. Sometimes when you buy bulk at Home Depot, it's cheaper. We replaced ours last year and bought each slat individually. It was more tedious but saved a lot more money than if we would have bought sections already made.
I didn't have the $$ to buy an actual wood fence. I bought the Bamboo Reed Fencing and put it over the existing chain link fence. I added 2 large large tomato stakes between existing fence posts for extra support. I attached using zip ties and I love it. It's pretty see through so for extra privacy I glued landscaping material to fence, folded the 16' fence on top of each other to make an 8' fence. Super private and looks great. I did a 45' section for less than $200 For all materials. Good Luck!!
don't know what shape your Mom's fence is in...but there is a product called fencecoat that you can paint old wooden fences and they will look new again. It is black and will protect the wood. It is kind of messy to put on as it spatters but it really does bring old wood back to life. About 30.00 for 5 gallons .
