How to I remove rust from an old iron patio table and chairs?

Use a mild soap and water with a scrubby type sponge or a steel wool pad with gentle movements. Rinse, repeat. If most of the rust is coming off, continue. If you need something stronger, try vinegar or a CLR type rust remover. I would also try WD-40, let it soak in, then try the steel wool again. Slow and steady. When the rust is all gone, use a paint like Rustoleum to keep future rust at bay. Good Luck!

Add water to dry baking soda until it has the texture of a paste thick enough for you to spread on the metal. Allow the baking soda paste to sit on the rusted area of the metal for at least 30 minutes before scrubbing off with a toothbrush or other small brush.

That table must weigh a ton! But it's important to clean the rust off every inch. Rust-Oleum is my favorite paint to rust-proof something. Then about any kind of paint will go over it. Don't forget the sealer after painting. And this is NOT the set of furniture to "distress". This set has already been under stress. Best wishes. 😇

I use a great product called Bar Keepers Friend. Great for removing rust and stains.

Its found on the aisle of cleaning products in a cardboard can, like cleanser.

I use a product called Ospho. It is a liquid that you paint on or soak items in. It neutralizes the rust and turns the rusted areas dark. I then let dry and then paint with rustoleum paint and when dry seal with a clear sealer. Ospho is the brand name and can be found at hardware and marine stores. It is expensive about $16-$18 for a. 32 oz bottle but worth every penny. I use it on lawn mower etc. Great Stuff.
