Dogs tend to urinate in places that smell like urine, so removing the urine smell in and around your plants can help solve the problem. Spray your plants with a plant-safe urine odor remover. Many garden stores also sell pet deterrents that you can spray directly onto your plants to discourage urination.

  • Never too early or too late to train your dog. Not as hard as it seems. Here are a couple links to get you started. Good luck!

You could also put a barrier up like a mini fence. I'm not sure how tall your dog is but it will keep them away from the new plants while they become established

We are putting up a border around the new rose bushes. Maybe this will help.

Mini fences work well on your own and other dogs. That's what we use!

No animal likes to step barefoot on chicken wire or barbed wire. they learn quickly this is not their spot. You can spray paint it so it blends in or put some mulch over top and likely remove it in short time.

I planted tomatoes in containers on my patio and my lab/mix finally decided to make one his properly. All I did was put an outdoor resin animal, in this case, a fat chicken, in front of the plant and apparently this seems to deter his territorial habit. A live plant was probably more appealing so my guess is that almost anything non-living, if big enough, would work. Just create a little barrier to distract the dog and usually that is all it will take.

They have these really nice fences at Home Depot and Lowes that are pretty affordable. they can add some character to your garden as well. :) Have fun!
