Full sun all day dries out potted plants quickly and you may need to water twice a day. Petunias can handle the sun. To help with the water you can use the gel packet out of a disposable diaper in the bottom of the pot to help retain water.

  • You need full sun plants that can handle the heat. Not knowing where you live, how about trying roses in pots? Make sure they are well watered.

  • Find some flowers that do well in the shade, or indirect sunlight.

The balcony may not be getting enough sun/heat. Since it rises in the east (sets in the west) it depends on where you are, the type of flowers (shade vs. full sun), etc.

The million bells or super petunias do amazing in full sun BUT must be watered daily.

Try a bigger pot or use the self watering stakes. You may have to refill it once a day, but better than constantly having to water.

My roses in a pot thrived, until I planted them. I have partial shade flowers on my porch and had to move them so they would be in shade after 12. Perhaps hanging a pretty shade, blind or awning could be the missing link to success. But, even with shade it can get hot in the summer, so I keep my potted soil moist.

Try geraniums. They don't like to be overwatered and do well in partial sun. Mine are in my North facing pots. Make sure you use good potting soil.
