2 cups of vinegar, 2 cups of water and 4 tablespoons of baking soda. Mix that up in a bowl because it's going to fix a lot. After fizzing is done put it in a spray bottle and spray the area well. Let it sit for a good 10 minutes and then blot up with towels. Now let it air dry. Stain should be gone

I was recently watching a program with a suggestion for a slightly different version of the above suggestions. First you saturate the stain with white vinegar, then sprinkle a layer of baking soda over it. Cover it with a bowl if it is in a high traffic area, so no one walks through it. Let it dry - it's amazing how the stain lifts into the baking soda! It took a stain out that I had thought was a lost cause!
Go to the floor cleaning section of your local grocery store and look for an enzymatic cleaner. It will both remove the stain and 'eat' the ammonia so that the pet will not return to that spot again.

Use 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1 tbsp. of Dawn dish soap, and fill with water. Spray area liberally and let soak for 5-10 minutes and then proceed with blotting with a clean, dry towel until stain is removed. Some carpet stain removal products can be of great benefit for combating many types of carpet stains.
