The compressor fan is on all the time.

My Home AC/Heat pump compressor fan is on all the time. Even when I turn off the AC at the thermostat. Is that suppose to happen?

No, you need to have someone take a look at this before it burns your compressor up.

  • Sound like something is stuck in your system. Maybe a relay switch.

Have you checked to see if the fan itself is turned to the on position? If you have a newer/digital thermostat there should be a setting for the fan that you can turn on auto so it only turns on when the systems are running. Otherwise you may need to call a service tech.

Based on where you live, if it's warm out already, set your thermostat up to over 80 and see if it stays on. If it does, call a technician to look at it. Also check your thermostat console to see if there's a separate switch just for the fan.

I don't think that should happen - it's worth calling someone to look at and then judging whether you can DIY the solution or not

Check to make sure your thermostat hasn't been turned to fan as it will run constantly if so. If not then likely the switch is stuck or needs to be replaced. The fan switch is on the furnace in most situations depending where you live and what type of cooling system you have.

Yes there was a problem with how a wire was connected to the relay switch leading to the compressor fan. We had a tech look at it. Thanks for all your input.
