Try springloaded shower rods and sheer curtains. If you don't like them, then there are no holes to fill or damage done to your posts.

Pinterest has lots of ideas from materials to use, ways to hang, etc:

Least expensive yet durable fabric is Harbor Freight's canvas painter's drop cloth. Covers a lot of space for not much money. Ecru colored.

Thanks Elizabeth. I have heard about painter's drop cloth and am wondering if it comes in white or any other color for that matter.

I did curtains on my gazebo a few years ago and found the price of true outside curtains too much, so I found some nice tab top curtains at Walmart in a solid off white. I take them down in the winter and wash, and they've made it through 5 seasons. I used inexpensive cafe rods to hang them. You could also get a vintage chandelier and it would be awesome.

  • Easy! Tension rods and either sheets, shower curtains or fabric of your choice. I would sew channel at the bottom to insert a pvc pipe to keep them from flopping and billowing in the breeze.

    • Great idea! I have not had that problem and I used $2 tension rods for my front porch. I guarantee your porch has better construction and a great paint job, as mine is rather "rough" therefore has something to "grab on to." You found an easy solution and it works! All good!

Use safety cable. I get mine at lowes. Then order shower curtain clips. I ordered them on Amazon.com. Then use painter's cloth as curtains. You can fold the top edge of the canvas over when you clip the shower curtain hooks on so you get the right length.

This site has great prices on outdoor curtains. I can't see what your house looks like from the outside, but based on your pictures, I think the tan and white cabana stripe would look awesome. Or if you've got black shutters, the black & white could look great. http://www.kirklands.com/catalog/search_sp.cmd?form_state=searchForm&defaultSearchKey=What+can+we+help+you+find%3F&q=outdoor+curtains&x=0&y=0

I so agree with you as the stripes are simple and rich looking. This year I purchased the black/white striped fabric shower curtain. Love it as my house is white w/black shutters and a few pots of red petunias. Then my concern turned toward fading so I bought an 8 oz. spray bottle of Ray Bloc UV fabric protector which covers 20 to 40 square feet. It is safe for all fabrics or so it says on the label. And again, got it from Walmart.

Actually, the curtains are navy and white but that would still work as the dark color's close enough. I would consider carrying the color from your room to your porch or vice versa for cohesiveness and an indoor-outdoor feel.

Our house is brick interspersed with dark brown bricks... the new addition is gray and we have white shudders.

I think a vertical, light gray and white striped curtain would be perfect. Would make you porch feel clean and crisp. However, you may want to consider getting rid of all that pink...but that's just me. Another color you may want to look at is a light coral. Gray and white with a touch of coral is an awesome combination. Whatever you decide, please post your pics on Hometalk. Would love to see them.

We hang pcp pipping around the inside of our porch. I purchased ikea shears, a pair cost about $5 .00. My cost for 6 prs is about $ 30.00. I usually get two years out of them, left up all year. I soak in oxy clean between seasons. What i like is that they are shear and when not tied and they are romantic closed. I also liked the idea above with the drop clothes.

Thank you for posting a picture of your home, helps in trying to get a look that compliments your home. I would use something more towards sheer & billowing! I'd use antique curtain rods & rings also. Please post after pictures, you have a lovely home!
