Who would have thought that finding a rock on the ground would make someone's day?

It would if the rock is a hand painted one, hidden around the city for the pure joy of someone else finding it to make them happy.

This summer, my family found a little rock hidden at the theater painted like Mrs. Pac-Man. On the back was a hashtag for a community Facebook page, where others were painting and sharing rocks!

I knew that painting rocks to share and hide around our community, with no other reason than to have fun and make someone happy was something my family would enjoy participating in.

We have rocks by our pool, so we choose rocks from there to paint.
You an also find them inexpensively at rock yard and garden departments.

You'll want to make sure you have a space to paint and create. I covered our table with a drop cloth and have the painting supplies out.

We use Posca paint pens and acrylic paint.

The paint pens make drawing small details really easy.

When you're rock is finished, make sure you seal it with a clear sealer. I use Rustoleum clear sealer.

I've got several more examples shared on my blog- Just a Little Creativity.

If you're not confident in your painting or drawing skills, you can be creative and add stickers or decorative paper!

Painting rocks, and hiding them around your town is a fun, free way to reach your community in a positive way. If you're creating these, and hiding them with your children, and even if you're out hunting for some of your own, you may be surprised at how much more aware of your city or town you become. You begin thinking of fun places to hide rocks, and places you may find some too!

I was looking for a service project for our Summer Bible Camp and this will be perfect. We will spend a day making the rocks and another day hiding them in our community. I will place small stickers on them to invite finders to our Church.
