  @Jaine Chapman Clematis is not a bulb, but is generally planted in spring, although fall planting is great if you are in a location where your winters are mild. The most important consideration is that they want their heads in the sun and their feet in the shade, so the roots should be well-mulched. Planting them behind a low-growing plant that will shade the roots is ideal.

  @Jaine Chapman Jaine Clematis are not bulbs they will look like a little plant when you go buy them first start of spring go to your local walMart and they sould have them

Do they ever really climb? Mine seems to just trail..

  @Nivasi Frankly-Speaks Most clematis are not self-clinging and need a support to climb on. There are types, however, that are scrambly and will never climb.

  @Douglas Hunt I would never ever thought clematis comes in 297 species good to know maybe I have one or two that are different after summer be for its cold I cut them back I leave about 2in then I cover them with leaves then spring they come back larger
