How do you hang an over the door 24 shoe organizer from the wall?

Hi Ann, I am not sure what type of shoe holder (hard side bars with "shelf" or vinyl with pockets) but I am going to try to be of some help here. First of all if you are installing something that large on a wall (and it WILL be heavy when loaded with shoes) you should nail a board up first to connect it to, making sure the nails are through 2 of the wall studs (which are usually about 16 inches apart throughout the walls of a home). This will keep your shoe rack from ripping down the wall plaster when you have shoes stored on it. If it is the vinyl type with the holes along the top for the over-the-door- holders to hang from, use those holes to screw the shoe holder to the board on the wall. Otherwise, if it is the 'shelf' type (with hard sides) and over-the-door metal or plastic hooks, you may need to cut them off someehow and drill or hammer screw holes into them so you can screw them into the board. I would use screws instead of nails if into the studs, and wall anchors if into drywall.

Ann Conrrad - I would mount the Over the Door shoe rack to board long enough to cover my wall studs (16" On Center) The mount this to wall studs using a 2 1/2;-3" screw. D.I.Y. project.

Hi Ann - I am a senior as well...I would opt for a shower rod that comes with it's own brackets...when installed it resemble what a toilet paper holder looks like..these are usually very sturdy..cheaper than wood..and will hold your shoes very comfortably...nice idea..I may incorporate it myself..all of my current doors have been pressed into this very service..but I am like yourself..shoes and slippers piled on the floor is not for a senior..but organization...that is us..right?

These are good suggestions, but remember that if you are hanging any significant weight, you will want to find studs in your wall to screw into to support your load. Get help finding the studs and Mark them so you can install your hooks. Your rod will be adjustable to fit the hooks.
