Ikea Hack TV Stand Makeover

While in a hurry we bought a TV table from Ikea 'to tie us over'. Ten years later that TV stand was still going strong. I loved the dimensions and the sturdiness, but the looks not so much. So instead of buying new, I decided to hack my Lack Ikea TV stand into something that fit our current style a bit more.
A functional but boring standard Ikea TV table got a country makeover with paint and wood.
By adding dividers and hatch doors, the cords and equipment are hidden from view.
A new wine box made to look vintage is used to house the TV guide and remote controls.

What kind of paint did you use? Did you have to do anything to prep the wood for the paint?
