Surround it with lattice on all four sides

Build a lattice fence around it to enclose it.

pinterest has some cool ideas. I've seen some even use pallets to cover/design something around the a/c unit.

Flowers! Beautiful tall native flowers for your area planted around in a bed around it (not immediately up next to it of course but about 5 or 6 inches away from it on at least 3 sides). Use a "short" trellis to help support them.
or you could buy or make a lattice, or mosaic, or wood slab surround (as in the link below) and be done with it ;) Thanks for asking us for ideas. Hope this helps. Good Luck with your search for 'the hiding air conditioner' ;)

You have to leave plenty of room for air to get in, some warranties are void if you enclose it as they may not get enough air circulation.

I would use lattice, and no flowers near the unit.
