Yes, that would be the easiest way. But, you might want to give painting you umbrella a try. Have the kids help. Use cloth pain from a hobby store or try watering down regular house paint. Be creative. After all, what do you have to lose?

I have an umbrella that has discolored stripes and thought I might try taping it off horizontally then maybe try a watered down bleach mix to it and see if it will stripe out that way.

I agree with Gayle Tucker. The EASIEST way isn't always the most fun or most satisfying way. You can stain the fabric with fabric dye to refresh it in the same or similar colors, or you could attempt to paint it. I haven't painted fabric much, but there are some fantastic sprays you could use. Do a lacy overlay, if that suits your style, or go geometric. A new outdoor umbrella will cost between 80 and 250 dollars, depending on quality and source, so give that some thought. Fabric spray paint is about $5 per can, and liquid dye is even less expensive.

As long as the material is in good shape you could paint it. Get some stencils of flowers and some craft paints. Should look neat. Post some pics if you try this.

There are a few people who have posted painting an umbrella on hometalk. One of our hometalkers posted this one recently.

As long as the material is in good condition you could paint it. Use a stencil and any type of craft paint. Check this site for some ideas: https://plaidonline.com/ and Doodlecraft is another place that posts ideas online. Any craft supply company will post ideas.

If the material is not rotted, you can do a lot with a plain canvass umbrella. Since it will eventually be replaced, have fun with this. Open it out on your lawn over a tarp and draw on a pattern you like - dots, stripes, stars, chevrons - whatever. Get a good outdoor spray paint in the colors you want, tape off your designs and go for it. Finish with a sealer. Once it's set back up again, run some lights along the inside for night time. Should be jazzy!
