Pruning rose bushes is best in the fall. Remember to clip just above the last new growth (leaves) on each branch. It's time consuming but you will be rewarded in the spring with an abundance of roses.

Best time to prune is in the spring before any buds form, cut off any dead wood and/or trim back to desired height or shape.

Hi 47igweller, I use the old farmer's way: From Spring thru Fall, only prune during months whose name includes the letter "R". For example you can prune in April but not in May. May does not contain the letter "R", So the next time for pruning is not until SeptembeR. I cut my roses back to about 6 inches every Fall. They come back bigger and better every year. Hope this helps you.

Yes, pick off the dead flowers. I've heard that for every dead head you pull off, more blossoms will grow. Good luck and happy gardening.

I'd do it in the fall - good luck!
