lant lots of marigolds / hang old cd discs on dental floss around your garden. This works well ; as the deer are spooked by anything shinny and spinning.

I've tried a few "scare 'em away" options over the years. They are all successful at first but once the deer are accustomed to the deterrent they will ignore it. There is a product I am currently using called "Deer-Out" that works great. It is an overpriced ($40 a quart) concentrated liquid that smells minty. You mix it with water and spray it on the leaves of your plants. Respray whenever the plant grows new leaves. Still on my first bottle and in my second year. I have a lot left and the deer have completely stopped bothering my peppers. I am thinking that I may have trained them to "Move along... Nothing to eat here."

Put chicken wire on the ground around them, they hate stepping on it. You can spray paint it or mulch over it to help disguise it if you want.

Plant rosemary near the garden. Deer do not like it.

  • Deer turn their noses up at fragrant plants with strong scents. Sages, ornamental salvias, and lavender, daffodils, garlic, annual vinca, marigolds, coneflowers

Use a vegetable peeler on the bar of Irish Spring soap and scatter shavings around plants and bushes. There's a product called Bobbex that works really well if you have something you want to protect though!

I read this from Gma Kirk: A farmer gave me a gross recipe for repellent...but it works. cup or two of urine, tablespoons of crushed garlic, and cayenne pepper, two eggs in a gallon jug, shake well, fill rest of the way with water. Cap and let age a week. Then you drizzle small stream around the perimeter of whatever you want to keep them from eating - works on rabbits too!
