This is a fun project and perfect gift for the beer drinker in your family. It's also quite stylish and will look great sitting on your patio table or in the man-cave!

Materials:
  • 1x8 board
  • Rope
  • Wood glue
  • Finish nails
  • Sand paper
  • Stain
  • Upholstery tacks
  • Drill w/bits and 3" hole saw

The Cuts:
  • Three 12½” x 8″ pieces
  • Two 1″ x 8″ pieces
  • Two 1½” x 8″ pieces
  • One 9″ x 1¼”

  • Drill holes for the rope handle 2″ from either end as seen in the photo above.
  • Drill holes for the rope handle 1″ from either end as seen in the photo above.
Drill six holes, spaced evenly, with your three inch hole saw.
Sand and stain all the wood. I used a wood stain color called provincial from Minwax and I think it looks pretty nice!
Assemble using wood glue and finish nails.
  • Place the 12" board (with no holes) on the bottom. Stack the 1" piece on the outside edge, glue and nail.
  • Stack your first 12" 6 pack ring board on top of the 1" board, glue and nail.
  • Stack your 1.5" piece on top of the first 6 pack ring, glue and nail
  • Stack your second 6 pack ring on top, glue and nail.
Fish two piece of rope, one through each end of the handle and into the beer carrier through the holes in the sides. Tie off, making sure you have about 6" of rope above the carrier for comfortable carrying.

This part you really just eyeball it. I used 3' rope and trimmed off the excess after I tied it on the inside of the carrier.
I added a dab of glue to the knot so it doesn't come untied.

Finally, add decorative upholstery tacks along the top edges.

This is very well designed and well described. The result looks great and is doable for many Hometalkers. Nice work.
