Ideas for this old church window screen?

I love this old screen and have had it sitting in my workshop for a couple of months. I want to do something that will keep the screen intact with maybe a quote to be hung on the wall. Would love to hear your ideas on what you would do with it, or how to do the quote? I remember doing something in grade school art class with screens but can't remember the steps...long time ago....

What a neat idea Naomi. I can think of two ways to get a quote on there, but I'm sure there are others. Cross stitch and stenciled.

Stencil, or tape off the words you want ,with masking tape or a stick on stencil, and spray paint the words on the screen. In a color that will show up against the place where the screen will be hanging .light strokes and more than one coat. White wall ,any color but white will work . If the screen is metal not fiberglass you can use magnets on it . Put your saying on it in letters. Cut out from a magnetic sheet material ,and apply , test first to see if they will stick securely . If not put a thin sheet of metal behind the letters, on the back side of the screen.
    • @Judy Adams I love this idea!!!!!! Thank you!!! The screen is metal and with the magnetic letters (Which my daughters can do!) and change the quote any time I want! I will add pics after it's done. So doing this! Now where to find magnetic sheets close to home, cold outside!

I Love the cross stitch idea. I would be concerned about what type of paint would attach.

You could turn the screen on its side (longest side on top) Paint lightly with a dry brush a background color. If any holes get filed use a toothpick to open them up. Then either lay the screen over the saying or picture you wan to place on your screen trace with chalk then place on a dark background and again using a dry brush paint in the color. If you hang over a window the painting/saying won't appear until evenings. Attached is a screen painting that was done and is popular in the Baltimore area. You can still see through it.

I see this door and think of mounting it on the wall and using it to hold jewelry.

I have one like it, I white washed the wood and distressed the wood. I put lg. coffee hooks along the bottom and a few on each side. The top I put a few to strand necklaces on. I do like the idea of the stencil. May be something French. Just have fun with it.

Depending on where you live; but we would take that with us up to the Mountains to a stream and use it as a sifter for Gold and other precious stones. We have several places where you can pan for Gold all day and leave with a few nuggets...
