Has anyone turned a plain,round plastic trash can into a compost bin?

Add worms. Especially if you add coffee grounds they love it and will provide your gardens with great aeration and nutrients. You can get them cheap online or at a good nursery.

Hello M Hurst; I have not tried this method, however I do Compost.

All I do is to place all food scraps on my property in one area. I cover the scraps typically with dirt, leaves, water. I add cow manure about twice a month and mix well.

BTW; A Friend of mine built a Compost bin by using two by fours, in a square. Like a box. He dug into the ground, set the box in and now has a functioning bin.

Make lots of large holes maybe 12 you need air I would also put some on the top of the can.
