What to feed tomatoes?

    But a fish emulsionn unless you have a fish tank. You can use the water from that to feed tomato plants.. You can get the emulsion at any garden center

    Hi John, Choose a fertilizer that has a balanced ratio of the three major elements, such as 10-10-10, or where the middle number (phosphorus) is larger than the first number (nitrogen), such as 2-3-1. Tomatoes are heavy feeders and usually do need fertilizer unless your soil is very rich.

    I have great luck using 2 tablespoons of Epson salt per gallon of water. Water each plant well once a week. Gives the needed magnesium. I also generously sprinkle dry instant milk around each plant for added calcium. Seems to help stop bottom rot for my plants. The Epson salt water can be used on the vast majority of your veggie plants and flowers with an issue.

    If you purchase commercial fertilizer, avoid any with lots of nitrogen. Nitrogen supports the growth of leaves but will retard the setting of blossoms and fruit.

    I use Miracle Grow every week and my tomato plants, actually, my entire garden gets huge plants and tons of vegetables.
