Pare down to only the essentials in your house, take down personal pictures of kids and family. Spruce up your curb appeal by making sure your lawn is well groomed all the time and plants, trees and shrubs look good there and back yard. Make it look like you would want a house you are trying to buy would look. Clean closets and make sure they look neat, same with any cupboard or drawer in kitchen and bathroom. Potential buyers look in any place they want, so make it look clean and organized. Make sure you do a little in the garage too, you know they will want to see that. Floors will be a big thing to a buyer, so make sure it is clean and shiny.

They say the kitchen and the bathroom sell any house. Repaint for a fresh look. Clean clean clean. Make repairs needed. And make sure there is some curb appeal so they come in. Declutter your whole house so the potential buyer can visualize their stuff in there. Pack away all your personal stuff, open all curtains so it looks light and bright. Make cookies and coffee before showing.

After cleaning and decluttering like the other girls mentioned, go outside and look at the front of your home. Add some curb appeal...possibly paint the front door a popping color and but a few flowers in pots by the front door.

Declutter, stash your stuff in plastic bins in the garage or basement. Wash your walls, use a Mr. Clean eraser to remove any marks. A fresh coat of paint does wonders. The new homeowners will probably repaint, but your home will look fresh and energized. Clean and brighten all sinks and bathroom fixtures. Freshen your home with cinnamon potpourri or diffused essential oils. A welcoming front door and/or potted flowers on your front porch. Happy home sale!

All the comments provided to you are great, especially the ones that say to de-clutter. Box up clothes you are not wearing this season to give more room in your closets. Do the same for kitchen and bathroom cabinet items. Prospective buyers want to see these areas have room for their stuff.

Kelly, your realtor will tell you what to keep and what to store. Do not store anything in the garage except a car. Once I see boxes their I know that house is going to be to small for my items so it defeats the purpose the same as basement. Let them think that they will refinish it with all that space and if it refinished realtor mayhave you replace some items with items down there and store those. Just rent a storage space and declutter as you pack and donate the rest. That way we you go to move you finish packing few items in home and pick up all packed items from storage unit. Also keep as little clothes s you can so closets appear larger. Same with K cabinets. And coat closets. But remember that the homes you are looking at did same thing so make a list or better yet take photos of your home as regularly used and look at them as you walk through home to make sure that it will be adequate. I hate my walk in closet because no larger than my previous closet since husbands clothes are in their as well. Measure rooms in places you like that are cleaned out to make sure you find the size for you. Make sure you measure your rooms as well. And if you fall in love with a wood burning fireplace they take up more space and require cleaning so that you don't end up with a fire half way up the chimney. The hearth is what really takes up space and then the logs you need to purchase and all the bugs that may be on them. Can you tell I had this issue. I know of what I speak. Just don't fall in love use only logical side of brain and if it works for you great, if not keep walking. Every home brings it's own issues so don't get taken over by color scheme you can use same in other house. Keep home spotless and if you have pets kennel them and allow home time to get refreshed, no dog or cat smells and if you have birds seeds are all over floor. After reading this you may not want to move ,but the thing is to start as soon as you can storing stuff you love and donating what you don't have a use for don't add on the stress of a garage sale. You may want to hire a cleaning company to come out twice a week and focus on baseboards and windows things that you don't have time to constantly do. If you have drapes and sheers remove drapes and keep sheers to allow as much sunlight as possible. Make sure all light bulbs are replaced so that you are positive that one won't go out when there is an open house or a private showing. It's work ,but it can be done if you start as soon as you are sure you will move. Then before you even go on line to look pack and declutter. Keep in garage until house is listed then take to storage unit . Remember to interview at least three realtors and choose the one that you believe priced your home like the comps in your area. Good luck and have fun. It's not that bad maybe have and pizza girls day then relax with your friends knowing you are not alone.
