I just take a 3 inch foam pad (size depends upon the size of your dog) and cover it with a blanket. I cut it larger than pad, so that it tucks under the foam. I use those elastic with clips on the ends thingies used to keep sheet corners tucked under a mattress to clip the blanket together. In the summer I use sheets as it is cooler.

One thing I like about this way to make a dog bed is that it's so easy to clean - just toss the blanket or sheet in the washer.

I have found that any blanket that smells like his humans is a great start. Fold the blanket to a comfortable size for him. If he likes it, then tuck it inside a plastic bin. It isn't too pretty but my dogs love them

how big is Ottis? For my smallest dog, Connor (3 lbs when I got him as a pup, and now a hulking 19 pounds LOL).. I used an old dresser drawer, painted and decorated and filled with a cushy pillow. For my big dog, Daisy, (110 pounds of love and drool), I am planning to repurpose a child's playpen.. cut down in height, and filled with a 4 inch thick "mattress" made from memory foam and covered in a fleece fabric I can wash.

I made a bed for my cat. Took an old long sleeved sweater and put a piece of foam in the torso part. You could use an old blanket or whatever. Then stuff the sleeves with either foam or stuffing of some kind. I got an old bedroom pillow and took the feathers out of it and used that. Sew the sleeves end to end to form a ring. Then sew the toro part to the bottom of the ring. I handed sewed this because I don't have a machine. She loved it. Cheap and looks like a store bought one.

My dogs like an unused pillow. I stitch an oval in the middle so there is a depression for them to curl up into. This forces the sides to puff up and the middle stuffing to compress.

I've made LOVELY beds for my dogs and they prefer finding an old dirty piece of clothing or rags to curl up on. Makes me sad and angry at the same time. I made Dakota a wonder large, large, soft pillow in lovely velvety material. And he took one sniff and went to find a piece of dirty clothing. Guess I'll donate it to the local Shelter.

At a craft show last fall, I saw a vendor that had used old thrift store tables turned upside down, and also drawers painted and decorated whimsically with different sizes of pillows and cushions fitted into them. They were all so great, some masculine and some feminine. Ottis would be a prince, a warrior or anything you wish. he is so cute!

You could cover a cardboard box with some fabric, glue on some trim to cover the seams and put in a cushion and something that smells like you. Otis is gorgeous by the way! He looks well-loved!

  • You have loads of suggestions here, just wanted to comment on how freakin cute your dog is! What a strikingly handsome boy he is! Yes, he deserves a new bed! Kisses to him from my girls Bailey and Daisey!

My 2 dogs are small also (11 pounds and 12 1/2 pounds). Looks like Otis (he's a cutie) is about that size. In a pinch I use a cat bed as they come in a range of sizes closer for toy dogs. Of course they all prefer the dog bed that is also known as our beds LOL

If you have an old suitcase, cut the top off and add some bedding in the bottom half. Here is a picture of my corgi Veronica in the suitcase bed I made.

TAKE an old sweatshirt. SEW up the neck hole. STUFF the body part of the shirt with fiber fill (pillow stuffing). SEW the waist shut all the way. STUFF the arms to the wrists. FOLD them around till the wrists meet & SEW them together. TURN the bed over & SEW the body of the shirt to the arms from underneath. YOU'RE done. Turn it over & you've got your doggie bed. I made one of these for our Pomeranian. She loves it. You can also place a sheet over it for easy cleaning. :)

I use a regular bed pillow & cover it with a fancy pillowcase or sew one in fabric of your choice. The entire thing can be tossed in the washer & dryer when dirty. More support & comfort than a store bought one. All my dogs have just loved them when they are not sleeping in my bed.

You can use old suitcases, wooden or plastic crates, dresser drawers, baskets... use pillows, towels, blankets for bedding and voila, g'night & sleep tight!

Try any wooden box large enough for Pretty Boy. Paint the box. Get a pillow of your choice then put it in the box. Instant bed 😍

My sister purchased an '80's round side table, she removed the two doors, wallpapered the inside panels and made a small bed with an oversized sweatshirt as stated above. She had sanded down the wooden top stained it then painted Penelope's name over the stain.....At first she did not like it so I would place a top of mine to be washed inside and now She LOVES IT!! And now, She lets everyone know it is HER BED!!

Pinterest has so so many awesome ideas and step by step instructions.

For Her dog she took an old dining chair with arms cut off the legs and repainted

the body, recovered the seat cushion and Madison has her own throne!!

They are so loved and they know it!!

Hope this and all the other ideas will inspire You to create the perfect bed for

    Your dog!!

They all deserve their own space!!

    Have a blessed day!!
