What color wicker furniture?

I have several pieces of antique furniture painted white. I will be using it on a screened porch attached to a Great Room that has tan walls and the major pieces of furniture tan. Should I paint the wicker tan or a darker color and use the same colors on the wicker cushions as in the Great Room rug and furniture pieces--carry the color theme to the adjoining room or leave it white?

In my opinion it would look nice to have them the same color theme as the adjoining room. having them a bit darker than the wall would look awesome!

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, good idea to have darker than the walls. Would be much better than to be the same color.

  • My vote is to leave it white to keep the breezy fresh look. Coordinate spaces by using complimentary accessories to tie the spaces together.

I would leave them white and just get throw pillows or chair cushions with white and tan, to pull it all together.

I would leave it white or another color you like for a pop of color and tie that color in with pillows, accessories, or rugs

Thanks for your reply. I do like the idea to change the color--now just to get my hubby to do it as he probably won't want to turn me loose with a spray can since the tops on some of the tables have oak tops.

Hello Marilyn; I too have Antique Wicker. The really old Wicker, late 1800's was painted a deep almost black brown color. That was the original color.

I also have several pieces of Wicker from before 1920's, that was originally a deep, crisp true White color.

All that I have done to my Furniture was to clean well, repair, and then to repaint. Mine is a mixture of the dark Walnut color, and also White.

Furthermore, to tie mine together, I ended up making all new cushions, and redoing the seats for all of the pieces.

I used the same Antique looking fabric for all pieces, and I used two colors that I loved for pillows.

If your Wicker were mine, I would go and look at fabric. I would get samples and see what looks nice in that room.

Furthermore, Please buy what you Love and enjoy. The colors matter to you, and to no one else.

I hope that this will help you!!!! Good Luck!!

Thanks for the response. Seeing lots of new wicker in the darker browns was making me think I should get away from the white and have it coordinate with the adjoining room. Perhaps I should leave it white and have the fabrics coordinate with the colors in the adjoining room. I'm sure my husband will appreciate not having to repaint all my pieces. Thanks again.
