DIY Drum Chandelier

The light fixture in a room is like the icing on a cake. It is a wonderful way to add taste. And it is easy to be forgotten and overlooked if it doesn’t make a statement. Unfortunately, there is one style of light fixture in my home that is repeated in almost every room which I do not like.
There it is, it probably looks familiar to you because everyone has it in their home. Using a simple lamp shade, I planned to make a chandelier drum shade for my light.
This lamp shade I bought used at a garage sale, but I think it was originally from IKEA. The first step was to spray paint it black. I didn't mind the swirl design on the shade, but I wanted it to stand out a little less.
After spray painting, I draped mardi gras beads from eight different points, attaching the beads with a hot glue gun. Then I hung crystals from the points where the mardi gras beads and lamp shade met.
When it was time to attach the light, I simply removed the old light fixture's frosted glass bowl and hung this lamp shade from the protruding bolt. The opening on the lamp shade was too big to balance on the bolt evenly, so I did fill that space with a large washer simply hot glued in place. It turned out awesome, especially all lit up at night!
I love the look in my master bedroom, it was an easy update anybody can customize for their home. Click here to see my home tour and here to see a how I even made my own lampshade at one point.

Have two of these Dolly Parton lights in my kitchen and love your idea but what would you suggest in place of the beads since this is in my kitchen?

The builder grade light fixture you replaced - we always called those boob lights.... :D

I really like your project. It turned out beautiful. Do you have it on a dimmer? That would be nice....

I have slanted ceilings throughout my house. Could I still do this project and have it hang without hanging at an angle? I love this idea!
