How do I get rid of kitchen ants?

Ants seem to come into the kitchen at a window above the sink where the frame joins on the two bottom sides.

We always used a product called Terro growing up. If you are looking for something more natural - maybe this article will help - https://www.diynatural.com/how-to-get-rid-of-ants-naturally/ - good luck

This will probably fly into the face of all that is proper, but I hate ants in my kitchen and get crazy when I see them..I clear my counters and spray the heck out of the crevices where they are coming from. I let sit for about an hour and spray again. I continue this until I no longer see activity. I then wash my counters with a mixture of bleach and water, followed by soap and water to get the chemical residue off. Lastly, I use Terro ant traps near the origination point. Good luck!

Make your own bait! It gets carried back to the nest and kills the queen. Soak a cotton ball in the following solution and place in the middle of the "line" near wear they come in.

    Ant Bait

    1 1/2 Cups warm water

    1 1/2 TBSP Borax

    mix well

    add 1/2 Cup sugar

    mix well

    Store in airtight container

You need to keep this out of the reach of childre & pets as it is toxic. If you need, you can put the cotton ball in a small plastic container with a few ant sized holes drilled in the bottom sides.

I live in Central America in the tropics. These tiny army of kitchen ants are a plague here. But I won the battle. I use Blattnex 'against ants' by Bayer. (They make one for cockroaches that is a different formula. It is the one for 'ants' you need, but I read where the one for cockroaches works, just haven't tried it) It is a gel and with just a very little on the trail they eat it and go home and kill off the entire nest in 24 hours. It lasts for months. Works like a charm. Active ingredient Sulfuramide. I see you can buy it on Amazon or Ebay.

Ants hate cinnamon. Ants hate talc. Spread either (I choose by color) and they will move elsewhere.

I use talcum powder at any entrances they may enter. Place in/on window sill.

Put borax (find it in the laundry section of supermarket) in milk bottle caps, then squirt a blob of honey in the center. Put the bottle caps along their trail and they honey will lure them in. The ants walk over the borax to get to the honey, then drag it back to their nest on their legs. It is toxic to ants, but not an immediate poison, so they can make it back to the nest. It may take a couple of weeks, but it will kill the whole colony, not just the ants you see. Refresh the honey as needed. If you have a cat, make sure the bottle caps do not fall to the floor where the cat can track the borax, as it is dangerous for cats when they clean it off their paws. This worked for me even though I thought it sounded goofy.
  • I use packaged cornbread mix that says it is sweetened and put it where they are. They will take it to the mound, everyone will eat it and die, they can't digest the cornmeal, but will take it because it is sweetened. Little goes a long way.

I read this from : Itsmemic

Medicated powder from the Dollar Tree. It has eucalyptus in it...menthol...I puff it around my homes foundation..and inside under my birdcages in the cracks under moldings. Work immediately and they never come back. I do this at the first sign of ants..in one day..GONE. The powder is in a very large container and lasts quite awhile too !! And smells great !

Not toxic to my birds OR dog

What if you make a barrier around the house.

I did some research, since we know what works for one person doesn't always work for another. I found this site and it's pretty informative. I know some tips you may not be able to use but there are some good ones also that will hopefully help.

Ants are so weird. One time I found them inside the freezer in the garage!! What would possess them to go inside a freezer only to die? They must have sent signals back or something ~ there were no ant trails only a freezer full of dead ants. Hasn't happened since.
