How can I make this fire surround look Japanese..?

I have modeling clay but stuck for ideas
on making it look Japanese ....help....!
remove those hinges or paint them grey; add a fire screen that has a oriental theme to hide the fire box
japanese do not have fireplaces. You could paint it shiny black ( or red) and decoupage japanese motifs on it.
I agree that using a screen might be best in front to hide the unit inside and add the oriental look, you can get them on amazon or other sites online. Or you can make your own to customize the design you want, here is a link with some diy ideas:

maybe cover it with a shiny white marble or faux marble and buy a Japanese screen like below
I am not a decorator so I am not familiar with this style. I looked up images and share them with you as possible ideas.

I would put strips of wood painted black or gel stained, to form rectangles like a Shoji screen. You could accent some of the rectangles with a couple of raised appliqués made out of the clay.
