Upcycling a Craigslist Headboard

Last year I did a major makeover of our master bedroom (you can check out all of the fun "before" and "after" pics {here})! One thing that I was totally stuck on was finding a new headboard. I simply couldn't find anything from my favorite stores that I loved and that was within my budget. So I ended up checking out Craigslist and came upon this king headboard that totally caught my eye:
The problem? It was really short! I knew that once I put my decorative pillows on the bed, it would cover up all of the beautiful details of the headboard. But I was so in love that I needed to find a way to make it work! I had an idea of what I could do so rented a U-haul to brought this baby home. What I ended up doing is giving my headboard some stilts! I had my contractor add a little over a foot of height to the legs and also add wood panels below where the old ones stopped (so there wouldn't be a gap where the pillows would fall back behind the headboard!):
The next step was for me to add some paint! I sanded the entire headboard down and primed it with my favorite primer that sticks to EVERYTHING called "STIX" by INSL-X. Then I painted it with Benjamin Moore Steel Wool to match the new bedding colors in our bedroom. I love how it turned out!!!
Such a great headboard at a price that can't be beat and a style that I couldn't find anywhere else! And it goes perfectly with our new lighting! I love the combination of the brass with the gray!
