Not sure if it's a good bush/tree to be right next to house. Plus don't know what it is.

That's some kind of holly, it looks like, and it needs some trimming close to the ground. But this is what our police tell us to do. Not have so many shrubs that a person could hide in them, and include shrubs with sharp leaves, stickers, and needles. Although I don't know the name, I know that a tree like that like that does not send out runners or thick roots and is useful and attractive in your flowerbed. Best wishes 😇

It does seem to have traits more similar to a bush than a tree. However, in either case, because it is so close to your home, it will need to be trimmed regularly to help keep it controlled and prevent it from marring the siding on your home. The leaves are are beautiful - I agree, could be a holly of some sort. Hopefully, you will get some berries for Christmas time.

Take a piece to a commercial nursery and they should be able to tell you what it is and how big it gets. The thing to worry about is the size of the roots. Could they cause foundation problems.

Yeah that's my concern! But if it's the Holly family it might not be a problem...
