Don't you just love that movie? Me too. Of course I like just about everything having to do with 'pink' (the color not the singer, although I like her too!). I have adored Pink since I can remember being asked what my favorite color is. I hear that the new 'in' color this year is PINK! I could not be more excited (and my husband could not be any less enthusiastic! lol) I found this pink color (American Décor chalk paint in Willow Mist) on Amazon and had to have it. At the time I had no project in mind for this color, I just wanted it and it was Prime, and free shipping ...... :)
So............fast forward a few weeks later when my husband was over helping our friends put up a new lean to for their Donkey's, supposedly...... and I was to meet him after finishing my errands. I am just about to our friend's house when he calls me... "Hey babe?" (I know I am about to be inconvenienced.......), "yes dear?"...........
I was driving our truck that day because I had to take stuff over to aid in the build of the new Donkey house, and he informs me that he is not there. What!? (and here I am feeling bad for him that he's working so hard....) He informs me that he is in fact at an Estate sale.... where said friends have just purchased a BOAT LOAD of 'stuff'... and , he needs the truck. So , I swing by their house (where the wife is now back at home, having made one drop off trip already of items purchased), drop off what is in the truck and head over with her to get the remaining items.
I walk in the Estate house and there it sits, lonely, forlorn and forgotten. It's in the corner, and it's late, so it is now half off and it's homely so no one is going to take it home..... I give my husband the "eyes", and he says "Babe, if you want it , we'll find room.... well you don't have to tell me twice!! I loaded up "Molly" (yes after Molly Ringwald) and headed out.

I have to say this is by far my favorite piece I've done to date. What a drastic change and I can't wait for y'all to see her!

How she began.....well sort of.... Once I determined that I was going to take off the top tier of this little table, I asked for my husbands help to remove it.  I figured that he'd get to it eventually and went on my happy way............ He comes back in the house 15 minutes later and says "Ok babe, the top is off".  What!?  .. darn it... no before pics again! lol  So, I set the top shelf carefully on top of the cabinet so you get the idea of how she started out. This poor girl needed some help, either she was poorly built, or someone had done a whole lot of moving in her life time.  She needed some TLC, which I promptly gave her.
At this point the only thing I knew for sure, is that she would definitely be PINK!  The rest I made up as I went along..........no final vision was yet available, which is unusual for me.
There were so many steps with this project , that I'm going to hit the high-lights or you all will be bored to tears by the time the reveal hits!
Feel free to ask questions if you need more info.
So , here she is with the top tier off and dismantled.  The actual top of the little cabinet was in rough shape and now contained holes and two tracks that I assume were to hold plates (I filled those in with wood filler so they were not visible from the side of the cabinet. ).  I decided that the top of the cabinet itself,  was not good enough to refinish.....but the top shelf was another matter altogether....
I decided to refinish the top shelf and use it as the top of the cabinet.
In this picture the top shelf has been stripped and Pre Stain applied.  Look at the beautiful grain that was hiding under the darker (and less than stellar) original stain!

The front panels were just too plain for this ornate little table, so I added a raised feather with Wood Icing and a stencil.
Covered the stripped and primed wood to paint the outer edge of the table top.
And then I stained the top  (Minwax Jacobean): )  Wow, so pretty!!!  For me this was better than the 4th of July fireworks!
Painting on the cabinet begins........... LOOK at my new color!!  I love this color so much!  (I really need to find something else to paint with it....hmmmm)icon
Here she is , with the paint and glaze complete , (Country Chic Smokey Quartz Glaze). The new, refinished table top not yet installed.
(The new top was glued on with wood glue, clamped and left to set up.
I added the same feather motif on the middle of the table top in pink.
I used Rub and Buff in Bronze to color the metal leg ends (the original color was old worn out brass)

I found THE PERFECT knob at one of my fav places , D Lawless hardware (on line).  Pink crystal with bronze hardware!!

Oh my, what a difference!!  She's STUNNING now.... well, I think so anyway : )

* A couple of notes that I left out of the project not meaning to:
 1. the entire cabinet, legs and drawer were finished with two coats of Minwax furniture wax.
 2. the table top was finished with 3 coats of Minwax wipe on clear satin poly

Here's a close up (because she's not afraid of them any more..) . Oooh just love all the pretty detail!
...and what I did to the inside of the drawer : )  Yes, .. another feather.............well I just couldn't help myself now could I ?! LOL
So "Pretty in Pink"! I just love her :)
