Defective Paint?

I bought a name brand spray paint and when I sprayed it, it turned into a powder.
Very strange. I brushed most of it off the project and had to sweep up powder on the ground. Has anyone every seen this before. I do a lot of spray painting and I have never
had this happen. It was mixed very well and came out as a soft blue powder. Took it back to Home Depot and they were very nice. What the heck?

Sometimes the paint sits to long on the shelf, and yes it does happen. As long as it was exchanged no issue

That is a first for me. Checking around on the web, I found out it is not unusual at all. Everyone has a reason why tnhey think it happens (some blame the brand, some blame just that brand's white can), anyway chek out this site where other consumers weighed in with their experiences. Good luck!http://thetyranidhive.proboards.com/thread/39990

Hello Gloria, No. I have never heard of this before. Strange. Life's mysteries promotes better thinkers. Right?

  • My guess is you inadvertently picked the incorrect formula for your project. As long as they took it back - great!

It sounds like the paint has frozen in shipment. Take it back for a refund.

If the humidity is low (dry conditions) spray paint will turn powdery. The paint actually dries before hitting the object being painted. Distance spraying the object may also leave the paint powdery. If the paint was a textured paint it can leave a powdery residue. Also an old bad batch of paint.
