I love that desk, great friend!! Yes I've have used Anne Sloan chalk paint and it works perfect on leather, I used on leather chain bottoms. Check pintrset out on her product. Oh I would add a piece of glass to the top for added protection, I'm sure you have a local glass place in phone book in your area, they will do a template of the top and you choose the the plain or smoked. Just a thought and best of luck😎

If the leather is intact , tape it off and paint around it.

That is a beautiful desk! The chalk paint should stick! I like Heirloom Traditions chalk paint myself. They have tons of color options and also liquid wax sealers for the chalk paint! You can get the wax sealer in clear or colored to give it a distressed look!

You could use a primer but it's not completely necessary with chalk paint. Sanding the desk as best as you can will help with the chalk paint adhesion. Which ever brand you go with see what they recommend you do!

beautiful! i am not against painting furniture. i have several pieces in my home that i have painted, but, i wouldn't paint it, simply it looks great just the way it is...

  • What a great friend! I would leave the leather alone and paint everything else. You can purchase some leather conditioner to bring it back to life. Will add characher to the piece. Might be something to consider?

I wouldn't paint over the leather. I would look for a leather stain. Even shoes polish would probably work to condition and improve the look of leather. I think the chalk paint would probably chip and flake off.
