Wall question?

My son has three large dogs that are allowed his his den. The den is quite large. He has to constantly clean the lower part of walls because the dogs will rub against while playing. We have been trying to think of some sort of wall treatment for the lower part of the walls that will hide marks and be easier to clean, Funds are limited to do this, any ideas would be a help. Thanks.

Unfortunately no matter what you put up, it'll continue to get dirty. If you paint with a semi gloss paint it'll make it easier to wipe off. This would be an inexpensive way to help your problem. Good luck

I'd use a semi-gloss paint or a vinyl wallpaper. then buy a lot of Mr. Clean erasers.

Three German shepherds and the lowest three feet on my walls get filthy from them playing against the wall rough housing. Plexiglass. Window cleaner and a paper towel now and then. I rent so when I leave I just have to remove four screws, patch and take the plexiglass to our next abode. You can even use a wall paper, tissue paper, gift wrap, etc on the back side of the plexiglass with mod podge so it accents your decor and hides the nose art and dirt on the plexiglass.

The best thing I found for my dogs - a Pitbull and a Border Collie mix - is dark wood paneling that I use on the lower third of the wall, add a nice 4-inch trim piece on the top and you have a chair rail that looks good. You can pick-up used paneling at the ReSource Stores sometimes [this is a Habitat to Humanity recycle store, they resell anything good that they can remove from a home that is being remodeled and from donations to the store]

Should you decide to go with a semi-gloss paint - don't be cheap! Use good quality paint because you will be washing it a lot.

Vinyl paneling. You can get some at Home Depot for a few dollars per panel. It's washable and durable. I currently have some in a laundry alcove and it works great.

i have LARGE dogs. You can get thick, clear vinyl. Or clear tablecloths. Tack it to the walls using wood strips (like a frame). You can also repurpose pallet wood for the strips. Clean with a window cleaner or vinegar solution (also helps with dog smells)

I use my spin mop, the head swivels, to clean the walls every time I mop the floors. I suffered with 'boxer gloob' for years and no longer have that problem. It takes a mere 5 mins extra and so worth the effort. I don't have to crawl around scrubbing that gunk off the walls anymore. A stitch in time......
