  • Cheapest is to make a doorstop. To fix the door needs to be readjusted at the hinges.

Support the door. Remove the top hinge pin. Lay it down on a solid surface. Take a hammer and strike the hinge pin in the center once to give it a very slight bend. Reinsert the hinge pin and check if the door stays open. Repeat if necessary. You may need to do this to the lower hinge pin. The bend gives enough friction to keep the door open but won't hamper the closing or opening of the door.

My kitchen door is steel and heavy. I prop it open with a bucket partially filled with "gems" and stones from the dollar store. Easy peasy.

Yep, I agree with Naomie on this one. Cheapest way is to get a triangle of wood to kick under the door to keep it open. Cutest way is to decorate a brick or buy a cast iron doorstop (we have a pig!). Smartest way (probably) is to experiment by tightening the screws in the hinges in increments until you are happy.

I made a door stop with a brick. I covered it with quilt batting and covered that with material, sewed the ends shut like an envelope, works like a charm. Hope this gives you unlimited ideas.

I've had this happen. Get a hammer and tap the round pin in the hinge out a little bit, both top and bottom until your door stays open. This make take a little time of going back and forth, but keep at it, it works.
