Are you talking about weatherproofing an object made from bamboo, or actual bamboo plants? The plants were the first thing that came to my mind, and I thought "Why weatherproof them? They are extremely invasive, and seem impossible to contain or get rid of without toxic weed-killers". Marymac

I'm sorry. It's a piece of bamboo wood initially meant to be a cutting board, but it has such a beautiful carving in it and is the perfect size for a tabletop to a metal base that I want to use outdoor under a covered pergola.

Depending on what you want to use the bamboo for you should be able to use products such as polyurethane, lacquer or even tung oil (a water sealant ). Just make sure to clean the bamboo thoroughly before applying anything to it.

"While your bamboo wicker furniture should always sit under a patio awning or be covered in wet conditions, you should still seal it to protect the surface from humidity and rain. Moisture exposure is perhaps the quickest killer of outdoor wicker furniture. Fortunately, adding a proper sealer is neither hard nor time-consuming. Follow the instructions below and keep your wicker furniture that much safer." http://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-water-seal-bamboo-wicker-furniture ; Good luck!
