Changing a peep hole

I can't figure out how to remove the old "brass" door knocker/peep hole that came with our front door that is covered with prefinished metal. The inside peephole has grooves where you use a coin to turn clockwise to tighten but this doesn't help to remove it. The peephole is tight against the door with a tube through the door to the exterior peephole lens. Everything I read says there should be grooves to use a screwdriver to loosen it counter clockwise but this one doesn't have those. Other than drilling out the whole mechanism, any thoughts? Thanks.
