A lampshade makes a fun party hat, but it makes a better organizer for craft supplies. I planned to use this in my craft room upstairs, but I looks so cool it's still in the living room.

I missed out on the organizing gene. It's not fun for me. But I'm having a blast organizing the small crafting supplies. Not more lost buttons in a drawer. I'm surprised by how much a lampshade holds.
I used a thrift store lampshade, a spindle and a knob. I started by removing the trim and fabric from the shade. Since I love woodworking and spindles, I used a spindle and made a base. If woodworking isn't your thing, a wooden paper towel holder would work.
For the base I cut two circles using a jigsaw, then used a router to add details. Next I glued the circle together and drilled a hole in the middle to fit the spindle. Then painted the lampshade holder.
The step for the top is the same for a spindle or the wooden paper towel holder. Drill a hole in the top and add a double ended screw. There come in different sizes. Take your knob to the hardware store to find one that fits. Add the lampshade on the screw and add the knob. Tighten enough so that the lampshade still spins.
I created hanging tags to organize my supplies. There's a download template on the website.
Then I used tags to wrap, sew, clip my crafting items. I found little envelopes on Amazon.
I found these little clips on amazon. I add the clip on a tag or small envelope and hang around the wire of the lampshade.
Some of the trim hanging was from the lampshade. icon
I have other ideas on the website if you can find a wooden paper towel holder or don't want to make the base.
It's fun to spin the lampshade and find just what I'm looking for.
