What to do about cat litter on the floor?

Nancy Wilson
by Nancy Wilson
Okay, I got the box with the tall sides (she doesn't like enclosure). I put a rug down. But she still tracks litter all over the bathroom floor. I am considering changing litter but I don't know if she'll use it. Any suggestions or DIY solutions?

Nancy, I just read the article and didn't read the reviews - sorry for sending you on a 'wild-goose-chase'. Some of the reviews weren't bad but some were not good at all! I went looking for myself to see if I could find an automatic cat box that cleans itself with good reviews. HA HA HA The only one I found with really good reviews costs $440.00!. WOW - Way out of my budget

I have had many cats in my lifetime and find that's just part of pet ownership. There will always be litter spilling over or being tracked around - especially if your cat dislikes enclosures. Just sweep it up and if the litter is still clean, deposit it back in the pan.

Sorry for chiming in to this thread so late, but I just had to share this in case it helps someone out. I wish I had gotten this advice years ago as a cat owner.

      My best advice?

Give the book " Ultimate Cat Secrets" a read.

It really is the only long-term solution to discipline your cat, OP.

This might come as a surprise to you, but your cat actually wants to obey you.

Itā€™s kittyā€™s independent, sassy nature that makes you fall in love with him, but itā€™s this very attitude that makes it frustrating to train fun behaviours into your favourite feline.

Cats respond best to positive reinforcement ā€“ yelling, punishing or disciplining your cat just wonā€™t work.

In my opinion, Ultimate Cat Secrets is a must-have for all cat lovers. It's not just a cat training manual ā€“ itā€™s one of the quickest and most comprehensive guides to living with a cat that Iā€™ve ever seen.

The easy access audio format makes it a breeze to digest from your computer or your mobile device and the lessons inside are easy to implement. And if thatā€™s not enough for you, ordering now will score you FIVE great bonuses:

      1) How to toilet train your cat and get rid of that stinky litter box forever.

      2) Extra tips audio program which includes basic first aid and tips on my favourite kitty calming remedy.

      3) Pet medical recorder ā€“ an absolute essential for parents of asthma cats or any kitty with a chronic medical condition.

      4) Downloadable transcripts of the entire program and all the bonus materials.

      5) 100 recipes to pamper your feline friend.

      I HIGHLY recommend it.

Have you tried an actual cat mat? They work pretty good because they help take the litter off of their feet as they walk out of the box. You can even put it over the rug you already use. If you do decide to change your cat litter there are some good all natural products that will attract your cat to the box, no dust but may not control odor as well.

I have tried the cat mat. My neighbor has a litter box that you have to tip over to empty.....but it retains odors. I think I'll just have to keep sweeping up the litter and shaking out the rug.

My don has a hybrid cat and you can't use clay litter with them because of the dust. He uses one of the litters that uses wood and there is little found on the floors around the litter pan. She also dislikes the covered pans, but found that a lot of them also have higher sides. He gets the covered ones, just does not use the top.

I tried the pellets and natural fibers and even newspaper (we won't talk about that!). I think I'll just have to keep sweeping!

If you keep the litterbox in the bathroom anyway, why don't you put the box in the tub? That will contain any stray litter.

I have 2 cats and 4 boxes.....2 for each cats. They will pee in one poop in the other.kittylitter crystals are great for odor control. I put a scoop from an old quart pan in the bottom of the litter box....then the clay litter.

Instead of a rug try a litter mat with texture
