    We do these every yr at Christmas. When we open them we pull both ends and, POP! Do these do that?

    I did this with paper towel rolls cut in half then covered them in white tissue paper followed by blue and red cellophane. I tied the ends using silver star wire and we used them as "firecracker" decorations for Fourth of July. You could do something similar with silver and gold on New Years Eve.
