DIY Barn Door Baby Gate

This is by far my favorite DIY my hubby and I have ever done..ever. We originally had just a plastic baby gate here. It was an eye sore and our dogs (and baby) had learned how to open it on their own. Our doorway is larger than normal, about 46" wide, so we had to alter the plans we followed.
Once you have your boards cut using a miter saw, you start to lay them together and nail using a nail gun. We filled all our nail holes with a stainable filler and sanded them smooth once dry.
Depending on the width of your door, the angles you cut for the center x is going to vary. You will have to measure and adjust for your own door.
Once all nail holes are filled and dry, I stained. For this door I mixed 2 parts Minwax Classic Grey and 1 part Rust-Oleum Dark Walnut stain.
We purchased our latch hardware gate kit from Lowe's for about $20. We love our dutch door baby gate. It looks good and is functional! You can see more of this DIY on my blog here and other simple DIYs you can do yourself. You can also find the plans and the link there as well!

That is a great idea- any ideas for an opening double that size?

I keep my dogs out of that part of the house and right now I also have a long baby gate- it looks tacky and my dogs have also learned how to open it.

I have a place at the end of the stairs going to my basement. I' m looking for some way to put a door there to separate the up stairs from the down stairs. It's kinda hard to imagine a door there but if I rent out the basement I need a door there. Any suggestions ? this might work but IDK
