I want to be able to see the fabric when I open the closet in my craft room. I only have an area about 25"s wide x 64"s high. I don't have much money for a big job.

Thanks for the idea of hanging fabric. I have the fabric on bolts and need to have them flat.

Use varying sizes of clear plastic storage bags. They are great for organizing just about anything. Clear vinyl bins would also work.

Thanks for the ideas. Where do you find vinyl bins?

Although I use plastic storage boxes in my cellar it sounds like you have a more "upscale" situation. Are the measurements for the entire closet or just the space for the bolts of fabric? Since you have a door, I would arrange some sort of shelving. The fabric need not be boxed if there is a door.

Hi, The measurement is the area that is available for the storage. I can't really put up shelves. There are shelving units on both sides of the space. Right now all my bolts of fabric are in storage bins. I want to be able to see the fabric without going through the bins. Thanks for your idea.

If your bolts are on rolls, get a bin or tall laundry basket and stand the bolts up in it. You may also use a tension rods between the space and lay the folded fabric over. Hope this helps

I understand what your aim is but I don't understand about the space you say you have available. 63" X 25" is really quite a lot and it has how much depth? Maybe you could get the plastic storage units, suggested to you, stack them on their sides and atop one another and then store the bolts of fabric, inside them? It might help if you could show an example of the bolts, how many you have and the space you are talking about. In my local store that sells fabric they have them on t heir ends, on their sides etc.

A friend just came by and suggested a tall bookcase to fit the space. That would work and give me 5 shelves to put the bolts of fabric on. I thought about laying the storage units on the side like you suggested but thought the weight of the fabric would bend the top units. I make the bolts about 12"s wide and 9"s deep. I use fabric store cardboard from there bolts and cut them, then put my fabric on that and mark the yardage. Thanks for your help.

They are also called storage bins or "totes." ones with a bit of flexibility seem to hold up better. You can find them in discount stores, craft stores, dollar stores, wholesale membership stores, some dept. stores. . .

Prices vary. Good luck with your project!

Oh, that's good, yes a bookshelf would work. Can I ask what kind of sewing do you do?

Hi, I don't do a lot, but when I do I have made a king size quilt, a queen size and several lap quilts. I also have been making backpacks to carry oxygen bottles. I found it easier to carry the bottle on my back that way my hands are free.
