How to sharpen a knife without a sharpening stone?

Across the bottom of a mug the rim is not glazed and sharpens knives fab just lay ur knife flat across bottom of mug and slide towards you alternating sides of the blade
Have you got a fine metal file? If so I used them to sharpen tools, and one of those round knife sharpeners work.

Hello Sandra, I recommend using a ceramic coffee mug to sharpen your knives. Turn it upside down and run your knife over the unglazed inside rim. This will only work with a ceramic mug. Good luck. fyi, you can sharpen scissors by cutting aluminum foil.
