Repurposed Desk to Kitchen Island

Medium
I wanted a small island for my kitchen to add work space and seating.
inpicked this cute desk from a local sale site.
I took the original top off, screwed it to the bottom and added 1x4's around the bottom then added metal leg brackets and 4" wood feet. I painted with a mix of Wise Owl Mermaid Kiss and Deep Turquoise, dark glaze and added new pulls. I used 2x12's for the top and allowed a 13" overhang in the back for seating and used heavy duty brackets to give overhang extra strength. Top is finished with minwax dark walnut and sealed with General Finishes High Performance Top Coat.

I have a beat up old desk. I thought of trying to antique a pieve of pressed wood for the top. do you think I can seal pressed wood property for the wet sticky messes in kitchen, or go to someplace like habitat for humanity for a better island top? Any help would be appreciated. My first big project.
