Do you need a place to store your Summer sunnies? I'm going to upcycle an old DVD rack and bobby pins to make a one-of-a kind sunglasses rack that is both practical and beautiful.
As anyone living in sunny LA, I noticed I was building quite a collection of eye wear. Cat eye, round frames and all! Add in a couple pairs of my husband's Raybans and it became a pile of dusty frames on our dresser. I began to check online for eye wear racks that were simple enough to fit into apartment living without taking up too much space, as well as something with enough slats to fit 4-8 rotating pairs throughout the seasons. I found nothing small enough or within my price range. One day I was cleaning out the apartment and found some old DVD racks that were lightweight, interlocking, and easily mountable and thought...Hmmm, this might work! So here it is! My DIY sunglasses rack. Visit the video above for more details if you have sunglasses of different shapes. Enjoy!

*Each interlocking DVD rack fits 3-5 pairs of sunglasses and is approx. 13 inches in height.

First things first: Make sure you have all of your materials readily on hand before you start. You don't want to run around looking for your tape with wet glue starting to set. Jewelry pliers are optional if bending the bobby pins is difficult.
Bend your bobby pins into a wide "V" shape, making sure the prongs are bent as wide as the slats on the DVD rack (Using bobby pins approx. 1.5 - 2 inches). This will ensure your sunglasses won't slide off once the rack is attached to the wall.
TIP: Get bobby pins that have more of a flat shape instead of the wavy ones. It will be easier to bend and will help your sunnies to sit more evenly.

Use a few dots of E6000 to glue your bobby pins onto the slats. Then get a piece of painters tape to secure the bobby pin to the rack, without getting it in the glue.
TIP: Space your bobby pins about 2-3 slats apart so each pair of sunglasses has space to hang freely without touching the next pair down.
Once your bobby pins are glued and secured with tape, let it dry for 24-48 hours.
When your glue is dry, remove the tape and spray paint any color you'd like.
TIP: Keep the spray can moving and rotate the rack to make sure the pieces in between the slats are covered.
The best part about this is that the rack came with some simple screws already. All you have to do is figure out where you want to hang it and use a drill, or a screw driver.
TIP: If you're worried about drilling into your drywall, thumbtacks work great if you only have a couple lightweight pairs of sunglasses.
And that's it! A chic, cost and space effective way to display a budding accessories collection. For more style oriented DIY's visit my channel at http://YouTube.com/user/indigenousdestiny
