Maintenance is the easiest way to improve curb appeal.
Groom whatever you have in terms of lawn and bushes. Remove overgrown, house-hiding landscaping and make sure grass is watered/mowed/edges neatly trimmed. Fill in any empty spots with sod.
If you have flower beds without any, plant brightly colored flowers.
Take a drive around your area and see which houses look the most inviting to you. Now compare those houses to your own, style wise. Consider copying some of their ideas. Without knowing anything at all about your house I will say what I find appealing about the houses I see. Something planted in the front yard of the house, window boxes, pretty fences, hedges, nicely kept walkways going up to the front door, lit lamps in windows at night. A very attractive front door and the doors immediate surroundings.
If you have siding, make sure it is clean. You can pressure wash it. If you don't have one you can usually rent one. If you have a painted home, make sure any scrapes are taken care of. Flowers always make your yard pop. Lawn that is neat and edged, no weeds. If you have bushes that are blocking the view of your home, trim them. Fresh mulch is fairly cheap. If you budget allows, a lot of people are using river rock instead of mulch. Front door in nice contrasting color or wood to complement this home if nice. Mailbox and address letters should be clean, you can always spray paint them to update them. Same with the door hardware. If your driveway blacktop is fading, reseal it. If you have a porch make sure it is neat. Hope this helps. Habitat for Humanity has some great items that can be repurposed for your porch.
So many houses after the 50's were built with the garage on the front of the house, it screams "Welcome to my garage attached to my half Milion dollar home!" If this is the case, consider toning it do with some framing out the doors into smaller spaces and using a darker color than the house.
Paint your front door, add a cute wreath. Add flower pots to your front porch area. Dress up your mailbox. Trim shrubs, plants in front of house to make sure they are neat. Keep front sidewalk, driveway clean and swept. Update your house numbers with something cute and modern. Update old exterior light fixtures, paint shutters, window trim etc if needed. Generally, just clean and polish everything to make it appear newer and brighter.
Ditto. Curb appeal really means the house looks loved and well tended. That said, use colors that compliment one another on both the house and in the plantings and mulches. Sometimes an artistic piece like statuary or pot or wagon wheel can be a nice touch, too. Never neglect your mailbox.
The girls above have covered it all........just one thing.....keep your mulch up and weeds out!! Just my help........Joanie...........keep them windows clean too!!
All good suggestions. I would add to look at your window treatments from the outside. As a retired designer, I cringe when I see windows that have all different colors and types of window treatments. The cheapest and easiest thing is to have blinds in the windows even if you have drapery or curtains. 2" white wood or faux would looks clean and uniform. Shutters do the same but more expensive. Even lightweight sheer curtains under curtains etc. The uniformity makes the front of the house look larger and well cared for.
