Del, hello :) I took a cusion off an old loveseat an cleaned it up and have let my pitbull use it for the past 4 years .... I also made a bed from a king-sized pillowcase and pillow, plus a covering with a zipper to cover it, for my daughter's pittie too. Both dogs love their beds :) Dogs really aren't picky as long as they have their human with them ;) Have Fun watching your fur baby enjoy their new bed! Thanks for using Hometalk for answers :)

  • What kind of bed? They do sell patterns, but if you are a handy at sewing, you do not really need one. Here is a link with options for you!

I'm not sure how large of a dog you're talking about, but my sister got a baby bed mattress at a yard sale and second hand sheets, too. She puts one on the bottom, then another on the top. Her dogs shed a lot, and she likes the "crisp" cotton sheets because she can "dust" the dog hair off. Mine doesn't shed so much and I wanted mine to be a bit smaller, so I just cut a crib mattress down (be careful of the springs) and used duct tape to "seal" the cut edge. I covered mine with fleece. I used a large piece, wrapped the mattress like a present, and used Velcro to close it on the underside. I really like this method! You can watch sales and clearance and get some really cute patterns and change it out as often as you like!

You can use an old pillow case and stuff it with rags and/or an old pillow, or two, or three for ultra cozy. :) These items can be purchased at a thrift store. We've had cats and I've created beds for them before by "picking" old baskets from the curbside and just using old blankets to fill them up. The dresser drawer idea is brilliant too. That can be "picked" from curbs, too, and then painted for personality. :)

See my post! I made a large bed with a step and added castors so it can be easily moved. My puppies love it!
