The minerals in the water. Put a charcoal filter on the faucet, same thing if you have an ice maker. The charcoal filter will clean out most of the minerals. It's usually iron that causes the odd taste though.

Hello Wendy; I have well water myself. If you can afford to do such, I would suggest purchasing a water filter for your pump. (Example: Culligan)

It is a salt based treatment. I have noticed a huge different in my water since getting this. You can also purchase a filter for your Ice maker.

My water now tastes so much better, and I have what is considered to be soft water now, instead of hard water.

I hope that this helps you!! Take Care!

Algae growth, methane (hydrogen sulfide) from decaying vegetation, iron. and other heavy metal/petroleum contaminates. Here's an article or two... http://www.cleanwaterstore.com/resource/how-to-guides/how-to-treat-iron-manganese-odors-well-water/

  • You need to test youer water periodically. Or it could be your freezer, ice absorbs odors from the freezer. Make sure the freezer and ice cube trays are sparkling clean. If fed directly through your fridge, the tubing needs to be cleaned or replaced. I keep a box of baking soda in each fridge and freezer and replace once a month - used boxes get sprinkled in each drain and toilet to keep them clean too. Good luck! Nothing worse than yucky ice in your beverage. Luckily an easy fix!

I agree with others posts and I would also have your water tested.

Have Culligan put in a whole house RO filter, that is what we did. It will give you the same things as is in the purified water you can buy in the store. It is very much worth it in the long run. We had to do it when my middle child kept throwing up his formula we made with out water, but not the premade you could buy. We knew then it was our water. A few days after we had it put in we had no problems with him drinking his formula.
