Snow in your neck of the woods got ya down? Chilled to the bone? I'm dreaming of warmer days, and looking back on some of my garden photos of container plantings. It's a nice break from winter doldrums, and not too soon to browse photos, catalogs or magazines for ideas of your own! My blog link suggests some tried-and-true ideas for full-sun containers (I'm zone 7a), and tips for successful container planting (hint: it involves a lot of water).

DID you start any of these from seeds? I am from CO and we don't start our planting , even annuals (esp annuals) until the 3rd or 4th week in May. I would love to start from seeds, but I have no idea on how to as I have always bought mine..Due to health issues and medical bills this yr I am on a tight budget and I love your potted plants...(look like mine in yrs gone by) and I miss planting and just digging in the dirt and seeing my beautiful garden...ANY ideas would be appreciated...thank you, Victoria

Elaine if you soak the ground thoroughly before digging it's a lot easier

Elaine, I lived in Arkansas, many yrs ago and the soil is CLAY, HARD CLAY, even if I soaked it..but my azalea's and the flowers I could plant there were gorgeous..I live in CO and I am from here originally so my roses are beautiful, I only have 5 now..about 30 yrs ago, I had ordered a variety of special roses for family members, here and those who had passed on, 35 total but J&P messed up my order and send me 350 bare root roses at the beginning of May..Most of them were a rose hedge, and I gave a few away.. (I called them and told them of their mistake, they told me to keep them) have you ever had enough containers of water to keep bare roots alive for 3 wks before planting? My ex hsb was so mad, because he had to help me, and get the post hole digger out..My special garden for our family came out so beautiful, and so did the pink hedge roses...IT was hard to keep them up but I did it for 13 yrs..Now, I only have 5...and I can barely keep up with them, but I love them..I also lived in FL and no one told me I shouldn't grow roses there, I tried (I was a very young wife and mother and it was my first try at roses) but because of all the rain, I learned real fast about mold and it was a bugger trying to keep them alive..I learn as I age...lol

@VictoriaC what a great mess up by J&P! But gardens do fade, even with care every year. I am in the process of purging and transplanting many 12 year plants right now. Tiring!
