My Desk Rescue

11 Months

I found this solid oak desk in the parking lot at my local ReStore (Habitat for Humanity's building supply). It needed some help, but it was the perfect size for my new office so I took it home. Did I mention it was FREE?! Check out the transformation here and see more photos at
This sad (massive!) desk was in need of a makeover
There was damage in a lot of spots that needed repair
I stripped it down and removed the damaged areas
I added trim to change the style from mission to Victorian inspired
Two coats of black latex and two more coats of glossy poly later...
It's the perfect desk for my home office. See more at

Do you know of any DIY tutorials on how to do something like what you did?

Hi there. I'm sorry, I don't, but this project wasn't super hard to do. Maybe search youtube for painting furniture and also working with decorative trim. It's mostly just sanding and painting though. You can do it.

Beautiful desk. I am going to look at discarded things a lot closer from now on. The desk turned out so gorgeous . Just loved it.
