A neat thing I've seen is find an old dresser that you can use the drawers out of. Attach wheels on the drawers, which you can find at a hardware store. Roll them under the bed. I have been meaning to do this myself.
I bought a metal framed storage bed for my son when he moved out. It was less than $100 for a full size. I was able to find laundry baskets that fit perfectly in the compartments beneath the bed and that is what he used as a dresser. I adhered carpet samples, upside down, to the bottoms to protect his wood floors. You can also use a bunky board or box spring if you need more support.
I've used old drawers from a throw away dresser. Add some rollers on the bottom and slide under the bed
Under bed boxes work really well, the ones with wheels are a little higher in height, but with a higher bed frame you could easily stack two on top of each other. The vacuum bags work really well under a bed also for seasonal clothes and bedding, etc.
Are you near an IKEA? They have many under bed storage options. Look at their catalog online for ideas. European homes are very small and they have to be creative with storage options. You can either purchase one of their furniture in a box options or copy one of their ideas. Their furniture is extremely well made and assembly is a snap.
My girlfriend and her hubby built their own - one has standard drawers, another has doors on either side of the bed to slide things that might be larger. She stores her items in plastic bins that easily slide around under the bed and in and out when needed. They looked at plans on the internet then modified to their needs.
Thank you all so very much! Great ideas. We have a queen and right now box spring and mattress are setting on our hardwood floors. So i love the carpet sample idea. I also really like the old drawers on wheels idea! I'll be sure to use these wonderful ideas!!!
I simply put my bedup on risers that I bought at Walmart. The dresser that I had was in bad shape but the drawers were still good so I now have them under my bed.
