Hi, it’s Brittany from Our Home Made Easy! I am passionate about sharing time saving projects around the house for other busy families.

Today I want to show you how I turned this online garage sale find into a beautiful piece that fits into our family room.

Goal: Remove any varnish and paint from this buffet so that I could stain the top and paint buffet.

You can see the full tutorial here
First we used Citri Strip and removed the paint from the inside and outside the buffet. I created another Hometalk post to describe my experience with removing the paint.
After removing the varnish, I painted the buffet using the (affiliate link) Fusion Mineral Paint in Midnight Blue. It was my first experience with the Mineral paint and I LOVED IT! I think I could’ve gotten away with only using 1 coat of paint, but I applied 2 since I wanted to sure I was covering up the red (a previous poorly thought out project).

Once the paint dried, I applied some espresso colored wax to give the paint some depth. It looks great, but to save time in the future, I’d save the wax for a lighter color paint where it’s more noticeable.
Once the paint & wax dried, I flipped over the piece and stained the top with stain. I applied 2 coats and sealed it using a satin finish poly. It’s our favorite color around the house and really ties together our projects.

The actual painting, waxing application, and staining took very little time. The prep work was the most work!
And here it is back at home in our family room!
