Good call! All you need is fabric paint and primer. Any craft and hobby store will have what you need. I would have a variety of sponge applicators and brushes to see what works best on your surface. Paint away!
Acrylic paint works well on jute and burlap. Not sure how much space you need to cover, but craft stores, and even Walmart carry painter's tubes of acrylics.
I used primer and exterior paint and it worked great! I wished I had a pic of it before I gave it to a friend!
